Members from Our Church Family Affected by the Floods

Matt and Amber Hale – 7/21/08 FLOOD RECOVERY NEEDS
The book of Acts speaks of the early Christians willingly giving up possessions so that no one among them would be left in need. As we become aware of needs in our church family, we want to make you aware of them, so that you can have the opportunity to share with your brothers and sisters in Christ. Among those affected by the flood, Matthew and Amber Hale have now moved into a different house and are working on replacing things lost in the flood. The furniture items they need are a bed and a dining room table and chairs. For a list of kitchen items needed, you can use the gift registry computers at Target or visit www.Target.com, click on TargetLists, and enter one of their names.

update 7/9/08 They had the insurance company (State Farm) inspect their house two weeks ago, then received a check from their flood insurance (full amount).  They are now working with the bank to pay off the mortgage on the house.   That is great news thus far, there should be some money left over after the mortgage is paid off.

They looked at a home last night to rent for the time being, it also has the option to buy later if they like to.  Our hope is by the first of August they may be able to move in.  We are planning a flood shower (all puns intended) possibly the weekend of the 19th or the 26th so watch the bulletin for announcements.  I will try to let you all know here also.  They have registered at Target, and will probably do some other stores too.

Thanks for all of  your prayers and support to Matt, Amber, Isaiah, and Elias.  What a wonderful church family what would we do with out you.
Rick Worsfold

(original) Matt and Amber’s home in the Time Check was flooded to 7’ high on the first floor. They are staying with family, have cleared and cleaned the home and are waiting on the City of Cedar Rapids before proceeding with renovations. No help needed at this time.

Mark and Liz Nelson – Mark and Liz’s home near Ellis Park was flooded to the rafters. They are staying with family, have cleared and cleaned the home and are waiting on the City of Cedar Rapids before proceeding with renovations. Jim and Joan Hale – update 8/6/08 For this coming Saturday August 9 there is still a need for more help at Jim's A Ave house. The remaining flooring needs removed, kitchen cabinets removed and the bathroom gutted. The plan is to work from about 8:30 - 1:00 and we can use as many as want to show up. Plan to dress in work clothes and if you have basic hand tools please bring them along. Additional tools/items that I can think of that will come in handy include hammers, crowbars, cordless drills, dust masks and kneepads. Please let Jim or Jeremy Crittenden know if you're planning on coming so that Jim can plan on how to best utilize the people that can help out.

update 7/24/08 As many of you know Jim and Joan Hale have been effected by the floods in June. Jim owns 2 properties that were effected by the floods and he is asking for some manpower to help clean up the two properties. Here is how you can get involved:

Saturday July 26, 8:30-noon: Need 4 people to help clean at 918 C Ave NW. Many have already helped clean at this property over the past month and this Saturday's effort is to finish to get the home ready to restore. Plan to bring workclothes.

Saturday August 2, 8:30-noon: Need 5 people to clean at 822 A Ave NW. This property had part of the foundation cave in and the basement needs to be cleaned out of the mud and cement blocks. This will be difficult work involving a lot of shoveling and wheelbarrows. You will need to bring workclothes and rubber boots for this effort. Jim will have the support joists and posts up before Aug 2 to make this a safe working environment from the foundation caving in. This home also has hardwood flooring that needs to be removed.

Saturday August 2, noon-?: Need 5 people to clean at 822 A Ave NW.

Saturday August 9: Depending on how much gets done on August 2 we may need to schedule another workday at the A Ave house. More communication to come on this after Aug 2.

There really is limited workspace at these 2 homes so in order to keep from tripping over each other we'd like to limit the amount of help to what is requested at this time. Please give me a call or e-mail Jeremy if you can help on any of the above days.
