JANE VAN DEN BERG
WORLDVENTURE - Cote d'Ivoire, Africa

The consensus is that now is a good time to pursue my master's degree because of the current unstable situation in Cote d'Ivoire. Pastor Keo's letter was really the one that confirmed it for me. He said that the economic and administrative structures in Cote d'Ivoire are not in place right now for literature/literacy ministries. He felt sure that the degree in continuing and vocational education would be extremely valuable in the future girls' vocational school and in general for the National Association of Evangelical Baptist Churches. So, I canceled my study program in France and started my application to the University of Wisconsin. This should take about two semesters along with a summer of being a full-time student for me to graduate. Several courses that I plan on taking involve designing a curriculum. Currently this is exactly an area of concern for me and I see it as one of my weaknesses in the development of a girls' vocational school. Other courses have to do with literacy for development. This is what I already do, but if I had an advanced degree in the subject, it would be an asset to the programs to which I sign my name, giving them more recognition in government, educational and administrative circles. I still will need to study in France before returning to the field but I believe this would be more effective after obtaining my masters degree. I covet your prayers for direction in every step of this plan.
